Im putting custom gold valves from Race Tech to make the forks as plush as the shock. I'm about to have surgery had a wicked wreck a few months back so I want to get it going before hand and sell it, instead of continuing to let it sit. I second the Walmart suggestion. Through all this, it has not missed a beat! If you ride a stocker, pull the snorkel out of the airbox and lose the inner part of the baffle-let it breathe. You can get the power that the engine has trapped inside. Be sure to check jetting.
I'm pretty alone in my dirt bike journey and don't have anyone to teach me. So it's a 16:61 but thats the same ratio as the stock 13:50. The engine starts easily with the push of a button and idles nicely underneath you providing a healthy for its cylinder capacity exhaust note. Climbing a steep rock strewn hills, the 230 will motor past 250s and 400s because they are distracted by excessive wheel spin. They can sulfate pretty fast. My friend said he would take my bike over a 450r anyday.
The stock pipe has no packing so there's no maintenance. Maybe you don't get Calif. You can enjoy the heck out of a very competent trail bike. The only draw back is a rear drum. In combination with the white number plates and aggressive black and gray graphics, they seem to have sorted out this model quickly and efficiently. I'm picking things up as I go along, reading manuals and such.
The crf is a way better looking bike. When I find a trashed trickle charger I use some number 10 wire to make a set of 6 foot jumpers and my sabre, goldwings, or the klr can be jumped from a car. If I had to do it again I would probally go for the street version. I heard a gentleman talking about hard starts. The air box baffle comes out with no tools, and the stock exhaust baffle is held in with 1 bolt.
Definitely recommend for an everyday driver. The top speed of a dirt bike is usually not as important as performance, ie: accelleration and decelleration in and out of turns, around and over obstacles. Take the snorkel out of the airbox. Save the money and when I'm ready just buy another. Clean all jets and check float height and generally get it back to scratch. And check out the rating of the bike's You can compare the rating with other bikes. Great bike to get around on the trails and hills.

When I try to start it, it makes the correct noises for the first few tries, then sounds like just a click or a half butt attempt. The all new off-road motorcycle was to start being produced as a 2003 model year and brought front and rear disc brakes instead of drums and a redesigned body as, quite frankly, it really needed it. If I ever need to get a cheap dirt bike again, I would choose a run down 10 year old bike blowing smoke and torn seat over a brand new chinese bike.

That's why I beat 450s offroad on a 230f. I have found that bike with the crf230. I didn't want any liquid cooled racing machines because all I do is ride trails all over, not race. I got me crf 230 3 months ago and I love it I really like the 6 speed transmission but that are a couple down sides first off.
How ever fast it was to go plus adding nitrous and sick tires helps too! The reason for the added teeth on the 428 conversion is because the tooth pitch is smaller so it takes more teeth to get the same diameter sprockets as the stock 520 setup. I've only had mine for a couple of months and during that time I have done many hours of riding on some very challenging tracks, very steep rocks hills, big mud holes, water, sand and dirt!! Glad it's something easy at this point. Could it be the starter? This was at the Speedway during a World Karting Association Speedweek. It's not a big problem and is easlily fixed. It is a very easy install, and the it comes with everything you need.
