Update from May 5, 2015 : Driving back from work Car would create loud noise when driving and give significant jerks to make you not drive it again. Id love to have a lower gear ratio that would allow the engine to sit at 1500rpm while doing 65mph. Did not fix the problem. Said I was getting a lawyer. After 6 months and three thousand miles of city driving during summer and a short trip to Michigan , the transmission breaks.
Leak is between tranny and transfer case. The surging is now gone and the transmission is as smooth as when it was new. Hold on to your seat! Nissan had extended the warranty to 120k miles. Nissan really needs to recall this. Doesnt matter if in gear or in nuetral. Because transmissions are sealed, a leak indicates a problem. I am 51 years old and am not abusing my vehicle, When speaking to Nissan, one of their agents admitted there is no reason a vehicle should need another transmission.
I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow and they are going to run a diagnostic to see if the problem stems from the transmission. Reading the forums, I believe I came across a similiar situation as yours. Currently due to transmission failure, Transformation Box assembly is broken. I was told by Jiffy Lube that there is very little fluid in the transmission. Replaced all the system components. I sincerely hope that I'm proven wrong.
Very unusual the dealer said. Dealer says something wrong with transfer case itself and should be replaced. My Rogue also makes the characteristic whine during deceleration at these speeds. Thank the Lord we made it home -- literally inch by inch, with people honking, passing and giving me dirty looks the entire way. I really hate the run around.
And I shouldn't have singled out Nissan, it's all of them. I was able to exit myself safely while my heart was beating extra hard. It's too bad because I really like the Rogue that I test drove and I would have purched one. After driving the car for approximately an hour it decelerates from 70-75mph to 50 mph going uphills. I thank God that I'm okay. Its powertrain delivers lively acceleration and relatively good fuel economy. Took car in and got new brakes installed.
Nissa would not take it apart to look at it. Thankfully I was close to home but if I were ever on a busy highway during morning or evening rush hour this could have been disastrous. Then last week I drove my car over the mountain pass. The insurance company fought with the dealer in Oregon but the new dealer persisted and we paid for fluids only. I don't have that kind of money. Once technician repaired part -- leak was still found on right axle. My seat shifts back and forth. Maybe Nissan should be committed to their customers and not the cvt transmission which seems to be the biggest piece of crap around. The resolution to the problem ended up resulting in replacing the entire transmission. Includes manufacturer warranty of 3+ years or 50,000+ miles.
When they get really bad they start bucking and jerking and indicate they're about to go. Shavings found in transmission fluid and loud noise coming from under car. Also replaced the transmission under warranty. My car was taken at the nearest Nissan dealership. The transfer case is leaking and will need to have a seal replaced. Google search Nissan total sales of all Muranos from 2003 till present. The repair has held for several thousand miles since.
